Culturally grounded support
Future initiatives shaped around dignity, emotional safety, lived experience, and the needs of Black and Brown families.
Rooted in birth justice. Built for community.
The Melanin Fluent Maternal Health Foundation exists to help close the distance between the care families are promised and the care they actually experience.
Understand our why
We envision perinatal care where every person’s story matters, identity is honored, and access to support does not depend on income, race, location, or the ability to navigate complex systems alone.
Why the foundation exists
Black and Brown birthing people, families with limited financial resources, and communities with fewer accessible services often encounter more barriers while carrying greater risk. Care can be fragmented. Information can be difficult to understand. Support may arrive too late or not at all.
These are not individual failures. They reflect gaps in systems, relationships, access, and trust.
The Foundation was created to develop community-centered responses that honor lived experience, strengthen advocacy, and make meaningful support easier to reach throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
What we are preparing to build
The Foundation is currently in a development phase. We are building the partnerships, infrastructure, and community-informed foundation needed for responsible future programming.
Future initiatives shaped around dignity, emotional safety, lived experience, and the needs of Black and Brown families.
Clear information, practical resources, and pathways that help families understand options and move through systems with greater support.
Partnerships and community-informed strategies that address barriers instead of placing the full burden of advocacy on families.
Who we center
“The village is not simply something families should have to find. It is something communities and systems must choose to build.”
One mission, two distinct roles
Direct doula and family-support services currently operate through The Melanin-Fluent Doula Agency. The Foundation is the developing community-benefit arm of the larger mission, created to build future charitable programs, partnerships, education, and systems-focused initiatives.

I am Chantel Spinner, a doula, community health worker, maternal-health advocate, and founder of Melanin Fluent. Years of walking alongside families have shown me that support cannot begin and end with a single appointment, birth, or program.
The Foundation exists because families deserve care that recognizes the whole person and because lasting change requires us to strengthen both community support and the systems surrounding it.
